
WHO mission in Moldova
People with mental illness should benefit of specialized mobile
assistance at home provided within community-based services; authorities
should ensure psychiatric beds in general hospitals, and mental health
services should be integrated into primary care – these are the main
recommendations made by experts from WHO European Regional Office during
their mission in Chisinau.
WHO experts mission in the Republic of Moldova took place on November 6-9.
Representatives of WHO Regional Office Matt Muijen and Elena Shevkun
visited Moldova on the occasion of drafting “National Strategy on Mental
Health Services on the level of community for 2012-2021”, “National Mental Health Program for 2012-2016”, Regulation for Community Mental Health Services as medico-social institution, their quality standards.
The experts examined these documents during a workshop (8-9 November) at which participated representatives from the Ministry of Health, mental health specialists from the Republic of Moldova.
In the opinion of WHO experts, the project of “National Strategy on Mental Health Services on the level of community for 2012-2021” is a complete, rationale and logic document, which deserves to be approved by Moldovan authorities.
