„Mobile Team” service present in Balti

Social assistance service for people with disabilities – “Mobile Team” was presented on Thursday (December, 2) in Balti during a round table. The service began its activity this year in March within the Association “Somato”, Balti. It was implemented in partnership with the local city hall and funded by the project “Inclusive Community – Moldova”. As the director of the Center Mental Health Center “Somato”, Corina Popa, mentioned the mobile team which has been functioning in Balti for more that nine months, consists of nine specialists, who offer specialized assistance at home for people with mental and physical disabilities and their families. This service will function until 2012 within the project “Inclusive Community – Moldova” and after that will be supervised by the Association “Somato” and local authorities.

Irina Jdanov, one of the supervisors of the “Mobile team” service from Balti said that during the two years of the project implementation about 60 persons with disabilities will benefit of free services provided by the Team.  “Beginning with March and until now “Mobile Team” service provided free assistance for 15 persons” Irina Jdanov said.

The Chief of Social Assistance and Family Protection Department from Balti city hall, Vladimir Semenţul, reported that in Balti there about 6 000 people with different degrees of disability. “The authorities have been administrating for about 20 years assistance at home for disabled people, including by offering free lunches” Vladimir Semenţul said. 

Until 2013 within the project “Inclusive Community – Moldova” there will be created new mobile teams in different districts of the country. The project is implemented by „Keystone Human Services” with the financial support of Open Society Foundations. //SOMATO-info
